It’s one of Thailand’s easiest islands to get around, but choosing where to stay in Koh Lanta can shape your whole trip.

Each stretch of coastline has its own vibe — family-friendly bays in the north, peaceful beaches in the middle, and postcard-worthy hideaways in the south.

We spent days riding around Koh Lanta on a motorbike, stopping at different beaches, checking out different areas, and making mental notes about where we’d stay next time (and which hotels are worth the splurge if your budget allows).

Whether you want convenience, quiet, or a romantic escape, this guide breaks down the best areas to stay in Koh Lanta, and the top hostels, hotels and resorts in each one.

Best Places to Stay in Koh Lanta

1. Klong Dao & Long Beach: Convenience + Best Swimming

These two beaches in the north of Koh Lanta are where most first-timers end up and for good reason. Think long sandy stretches, reliable swimming, loads of places to eat, and a super easy base to explore from. 

We stayed in this area during our trip and loved it. If we were visiting Koh Lanta for the first time again, we’d make the same choice. 

In our opinion this area has some of the best all-round beaches in Koh Lanta because of their accessibility.

There are plenty of food options available around here – many open later at night – and we felt super safe walking around after dark.

• Close to restaurants, co-working & shops
• Easy scooter access to everywhere
• Great mix of social + chill

❌ Cons of Staying Here:

• More built-up than other areas
• Not as peaceful as the southern beaches

Best Budget Place to Stay in Klong Dao & Long Beach

Hub of Joys Hostel($) – Our Pick

A friendly, clean, social hostel just across from Long Beach. Breakfast included, super helpful staff, and ideal if you want to meet other travelers.

This is where we stayed for nearly a week and would recommend it to anyone traveling on a budget.

It’s not the MOST luxurious hostel we’ve ever stayed in, but the AC was cold and the location unmatched for the price.

Best Mid-Range Place to Stay in Klong Dao & Long Beach

Oasis Yoga Bungalows($$)

A major selling point for us when choosing where to stay is always a common area (or somewhere to hang out that isn’t our bed). Oasis Yoga Bungalows has beautiful spaces with cushions and hammocks to relax in. 

The yoga classes they offer from their treehouse come with rave reviews. Switch off by the pool and take in the mountain views.

Best Luxury Place to Stay in Klong Dao & Long Beach

Noble House Beach Resort($$$)

Beachfront property with a swimming pool, offering a good variety of meal options in their well-rated restaurant.

Perfect if you’re spending 3+ days in Koh Lanta. Next time we visit we’d love to stay here. Design-forward, small scale hotels are our weakness.

2. Beautiful Beach & Klong Khong: Quiet + Laid-Back

Just south of Long Beach, this area is quieter, a little more rustic, and ideal for travelers who want peaceful evenings, sunset bars, and chill beach days. It’s still easy to get around with a scooter.

If you are looking for a quiet area in Koh Lanta without getting too off the beaten path, this one is for you. This is also a fantastic area to stay in for couples.

• More affordable mid-range options
• Relaxed, local vibe

❌ Cons of Staying Here:

• Fewer restaurants
• Not suitable for swimming at all tides

Best Budget Place to Stay

Anyaman Lanta($) 

You would do well to find accommodation with a pool for this price anywhere else on the island. The cheaper rooms are basic but they are clean and the beds are comfortable. 

A bonus (yet completely unnecessary) feature that we take for granted back home – some rooms come with power outlets next to the beds.

Best Mid-Range Place to Stay

Green Pepper Hotel($$) – Our Pick

Cozy boho bungalows surrounded by greenery — stylish, peaceful, and great value. They have a taxi service and motorbike hire to take you to the beaches. 

We always love when owners give real good recommendations and at Green Pepper they do just that. Staff are on hand to answer any queries and advise on where to go – no strings attached. 

Best Higher-End Place to Stay

The Lazy Lodge($$$)

Beachfront, simple bungalows, relaxed atmosphere, sunset terraces, and friendly staff who can arrange tours.

The aesthetic here reminds us of our hotel in Siem Reap – Google tells us it’s called eco-brutalism. We love hotels that blend raw concrete style with a lot of greenery and traditional furnishing.

Just throw in a beach a 7 minute walk away and there you have it!

3. Kantiang Bay & Nui Bay: Secluded & Romantic

These southern beaches are some of the most beautiful on the island. It feels quieter and more remote.

The perfect base if you want long beach days, romantic stays, and upscale hotels surrounded by jungle and turquoise water.

Klong Jark Bungalows($$) – Our Pick

Rustic Thai-style bungalows surrounded by gardens, a good restaurant onsite, and a peaceful atmosphere.

Klong Jark might not be within our usual backpacker budget price, but it’s great value for money. For a tad extra cash per night, you get private beach access in one of the most secluded parts of Koh Lanta. We’re sold!

Best High-End Luxury Place to Stay

Pimalai Resort & Spa($$$$) 

The most luxurious resort on Koh Lanta — beachfront villas, incredible views, top-tier service, spa, and total privacy. A bucket-list stay. This place sells out way in advance though so plan ahead.

Here are a few things worth adding to your list no matter which beach you stay on:

1. Take an Island Tour – Snorkel, swim, and explore Koh Lanta’s smaller islands like Koh Ngai and Koh Rok. Our hostel offered this island tour. It’s a great way to meet other travelers if you book with Hub of Joys. 
2. Visit Lanta Old Town – Colorful wooden houses, local food, and a totally different vibe to the beaches. The Old Town was a pleasant surprise for us and the drive there was beautiful.
3. Support Lanta Animal Welfare – A wonderful non-profit doing great work on the island. You can book a tour via their website. SO WHOLESOME.
